Easwaramma - The Mother Divine
Published: 29-Apr-2008

Like Yashoda, Sri Krishna’s foster Mother, Easwaramma would often pray for Divine intervention for Sathya to turn into a normal Puttaparthi boy. Still, Easwaramma could see in him the potentials of a poet, a singer, a dancer, a playwright and a director and she hoped he would blossom in these fields. In fact, such were Sathya’s theatrical skills and such was Easwaramma’s simplicity that whenever she saw him being “tortured” in a drama he acted in, she wept aloud and even tried to protect her Sathya!

Buddha Purnima

The day of Vaisakh Purnima, which usually falls in the month of May, is considered most sacred by Buddhists all over the world. This day is significant for three reasons. It was on this day that Gautama Buddha, the founder of Buddhism, was born as Prince Siddhartha at Lumbini in Nepal in 560 B.C. It is also the day when He attained enlightenment at Gaya in India, after years of search and enquiry into the causes and remedy for sorrow in the world. Thereafter, Siddhartha came to be known as Buddha, or the Enlightened one.

He preached that desires are at the root of all sorrow and hence advocated the path of right conduct and the right use of senses as the way to enlightenment. He attained Unity with the Absolute (Nirvana) in 480 B.C., again on the day of Vaisakh Purnima. This auspicious day is observed as Buddha Purnima which falls on Monday 19th of May this year.

Unity Christmas Celebrations 2007 Report

Victoria, Australia

Christmas was celebrated as a unity event for the first time hosted by Zone East and Zone West of the Sathya Sai Organisation Victoria Region on the 15th of December 2007. Although the weather did not depict a typical Australian summer’s day, the rain did not deter over 200 devotees from gathering at the St James’ Uniting Church in Box Hill to celebrate the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ.

The program commenced with three Om’s, followed by an opening address from Sister Hema, the Spiritual Coordinator of Zone East, who welcomed devotees and introduced the day’s master of ceremonies, Sister Archana. After a brief introduction along with housekeeping announcements, the program was underway.
